Здесь представлены краткие справки по фонетике и грамматике языков Афразийской семьи, взятые с проекта глобальной этимологической базы данных "Вавилонская башня", основанную Сергеем Анатольевичем Старостиным. Эти сведения будут затем размещаться в каждом праязыковом этимологическом словнике.

Представленные языки афразийской общности ведут свою историю от праафразийского языка. На основе этимологических баз праязыков их групп (египетской, кушитской, ливийской, семитской, чадской) реконструирован праафразийский словарь.

База составлена А. Ю. Милитаревым и О. В. Столбовой как на основании многочисленных опубликованных источников, так и собственной, непрерывно продолжающейся работы. Именно в силу того, что базы постоянно изменяются и пополняются, они выглядят довольно сыро на фоне более "завершенных" электронных словарей сайта, но даже в том виде, в котором они представлены, их совокупная ценность выше, чем ценность любого из существующих на сегодняшний день этимологических афразийских словарей. Подчиненные базы посвящены дочерним семьям праафразийского (семитской, египетской, берберской, кушитским, чадским; авторство чадских баз целиком принадлежит О. В. Столбовой, остальных - почти целиком А. Ю. Милитареву). По-видимому, наиболее солидный вид на сегодня имеет семитская база, основанная на совместной работе А. Ю. Милитарева и Л. Е.
